VLC media player CVE-2016-5108 Patch

Today, we focus on deploying a patch to remediate CVE-2016-5108 which affects the VideoLAN VLC media player before 2.2.4

To check if this patch is relevant to you:

Go to Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features and check if the VLC media player is installed on your system and if its version is less than 2.2.4

Manual Patch deployment

1. You can either download the patch directly from the vendor or a simpler and more accurate way could be to visit Patch Astra and search for  “CVE-2016-5108” and download the patch.
2. Once the patch file is downloaded on your target machine, go ahead and double-click on the .exe installer and now you just have to proceed and install the patch on your system.
3. This patch will not require any restart.
4. To verify the patch is applied correctly, go to Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features, check for the version of the VLC media player, and ensure that it is greater than 2.2.4.
